The UCSF Diabetes Center website is the home of essential information for students, professors and members of the public interested in participating in clinical trials. As such, it was vital that the information be presented in a clear and easy-to-navigate fashion. The old site had blocks of text arranged haphazardly across many pages, making the information difficult to access. The site was also lacking a content management system, which made updating and maintaining the site a cumbersome and time-consuming process.
In our re-design and development of the site, we focused on essentials – getting the information to the people who need it. The new site is clean and professional, but still warm and inviting. A number of new features include an events calendar, e-newsletter sign-up, rotating banner, and quick links section. We also created a clinical trials section on the homepage with easy access to information on the center’s diabetes trials. And the faculty directory includes a publications section that is sorted by the author’s name and automatically listed under the bio of that faculty member. The result? Easy-to-access information for all those involved with the UCSF Diabetes Center, and staff who can now spend more time looking for a cure for diabetes and less time updating their website.
