Wise Bread is one of the most popular and fastest-growing personal finance blogs online. Its articles on personal finance, frugal living, career and income, and general life advice have been lauded in major news outlets and relied on by millions of readers. With over 1.2 million page views per month and growing, the folks at Wise Bread knew it was time for an upgrade – both in style and in function. They came to us looking for a site re-design and a development upgrade to Drupal 6.
In the looks department, Wise Bread wanted to de-clutter the site and cut down on the visual noise distracting readers from the content. Our solution was to reorganize the information, increase the white space and use professional-looking, inviting fonts and design elements – essentially making the site reflect the style of a newspaper or magazine site rather than a blog. Not only does this make the user experience more enjoyable, it also raises the perceived value of the articles and website and reinforces Wise Bread’s reputation as an authority in the area of personal finance.
Development-wise, the goal was a clean, lightweight system that relied on popular, tested Drupal contributed modules. All modules, including custom modules, were upgraded or re-written to be compatible with Drupal 6. Now beautiful inside and out, Wise Bread can continue to help readers “live large on a small budget.”
