Custom Contextual Links Module

January 9th, 2012 by Benjamin Koether

In the Drupal community the phrase “There’s a module for that” is pretty much synonymous with Apple’s “There’s an app for that”. So it was a bit surprising when Trent, ImageX’s ‘walking module encyclopedia’, mentioned the lack of an existing module allowing developers to add links to the contextual links widgets in Drupal 7. There are a number of Drupal 6 modules that create a nice shortcut to edit/delete a node or to configure a block without actually clicking through the entire menu structure. Developers that used any of these modules immediately added them to their own personal ‘must install’ module lists and as a result, and much to the delight of the community, this became a core feature in Drupal 7. On it’s own the core module adds contextual link widgets to nodes and blocks and there are a number of modules that add their own links as well.

An extension to the Macro module.

October 18th, 2010 by Yuriy Babenko

Today we’re excited to contribute a new module to the Drupal community – Macro Code. This module extends the functionality of the existing Macro module by providing automatic export and grouping of macros (as “component” files), along with an easy interface to play back these macros (on other copies of the site). Being able to easily keep track of form submissions improves the development workflow by minimizing the amount of work that has to be re-created on staging and production servers after the feature has been created on the development environment. For more information, check out the project page.

OpenAtrium and You: A Guide

November 9th, 2009 by Phillip Lamb

A few weeks ago I was tasked with developing an Intranet for a client of ours. We decided to set them up with an instance of OpenAtrium, a Drupal project from the guys over at Development Seed. It’s a fairly new project, but what I’ve seen has really impressed me. I won’t use this post to detail the pros and cons of the system (that’s for another day, after we’ve had time to really test it out), but rather will guide you through the process of getting OA set up in the first place, and then in the next post I’ll show you how you can expand its capabilities using Features.

Updating Drupal using SVN Vendor Branches

January 15th, 2009 by

At ImageX Media all of our projects are managed through Subversion. Most of our sites all share the same base (the latest version of Acquia Drupal, a few contributed modules all our sites use, and an install profile based on packgr). For those of you who also manage your sites in SVN you know that simply copying the latest version of Drupal over top of the old version doesn’t cut it.
