Writing Great Social Media Bios

December 11th, 2009 by Jodi Martens

Your goal: to promote yourself and build your personal and professional brand online. You’ve joined Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn – and, just to cover your bases, YouTube, Flickr, Posterous and Foursquare, not to mention your blog. But just being on these sites isn’t enough to turn you into an online sensation overnight. Like anything worth having, it requires some work on your part – and the best place to start is with your bio. Your social media bio is a critical component of your personal branding toolbox. It’s the first thing people will read to find out if they should follow you, friend you or do business with you. According to Hubspot, almost two-thirds of Twitter users don’t have bios on their profiles.

OpenAtrium and You: A Guide

November 9th, 2009 by Phillip Lamb

A few weeks ago I was tasked with developing an Intranet for a client of ours. We decided to set them up with an instance of OpenAtrium, a Drupal project from the guys over at Development Seed. It’s a fairly new project, but what I’ve seen has really impressed me. I won’t use this post to detail the pros and cons of the system (that’s for another day, after we’ve had time to really test it out), but rather will guide you through the process of getting OA set up in the first place, and then in the next post I’ll show you how you can expand its capabilities using Features.

In our increasingly tech-savvy world, the company website is the new face of the organization. And just like in the non-virtual world, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. The first thing your prospective clients, customers or donors read needs to give them the information they want, the way they want it, and quickly move them along to the important business of taking the next step.

Corporate Manual: Wiki-Style

June 23rd, 2008 by

We’ve been using Basecamp from 37signals for quite awhile now for client communications and project management. We soon started to use it to store and manage our employee manual too. However, there are certainly limitations, as you can only have one level of categorization and hierarchy and you can’t change the order in which they appear.
