Akron Area YMCA

Overview

The Akron Area YMCA is a 150 year old non-profit organization serving a 3-county area with programs for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. ImageX led the development of an Open Y site for a non-profit organization. The majority of our development transpired during the COVID-19 shutdown.

What they needed

The Akron Y’s proprietary website was out of date and out of sync with the demands of the organization. The client team was intrigued with the potential of Open Y and sought to find a way to fit it into the budget to meet user needs and improve the user experience. The Akron Y was looking for a development partner who were not only experts in Drupal and OpenY, but who could also answer questions and ease the transition into a large project with little to no previous experience in web development and design.

How we helped

The project began with an agreement in December 2019 when we began to work with the project team at the Akron Area YMCA. The team was made up of key-people representing top functions in Membership, Childcare, Camp, and IT.

Much of the development occurred during shutdowns of both our businesses during COVID-19 but we never skipped a beat with the Vancouver team and the Summit County, Ohio team all working from our homes. We used Google Docs and BaseCamp to keep us on target

The Results

We completed the project on time and within the budget set forth in our agreement. Their beautiful OpenY site, with the Carnation theme, was seamlessly launched on August 5, 2020.

The feedback from internal and external users was terrific. Due to COVID-19, the Akron Area YMCA has unfortunately lost many members but were eager to welcome them back with new programs, easy registration, and a jam-packed array of meaningful and fun content
