New Brunswick Health Council Case Study
Overview
The New Brunswick Health Council (NBHC) was created by legislation in 2008 to report publicly on the performance of the provincial health system and to engage citizens in the improvement of health services quality. In addition to engaging with and reporting to New Brunswickers, the NBHC makes annual recommendations to the ministry of health. NBHC manages a large dataset and extracts useful metrics for researcher and public usage.
ImageX was selected as the web agency of choice to make improvements to the website and assist the NBHC with further website planning. We provided feature development and ongoing Drupal support for a public health website. We now currently support New Brunswick Health Council (NBHC) through ongoing improvements to functionality and user experience.
What They Needed
The primary goals of the project were to conduct an in-depth usability research, to provide technical and design solutions for:
- Improving the interface for the NBHC.ca site
- Improvements for the Maps and Charts feature
- Indicator results, maps, and charts visualizations
- Creating responsive designs
NBHC also needed a support partner to provide ongoing improvements to functionality and user experience.
How We Helped
We provided design, user experience, and implementation support for the NBHC planned features and enhancements. We also advise on continued improvement and insights on how to deliver value to NBHC’s customers, provide site maintenance, and support for content and feature delivery in English and French.
To aid in data synthesis, we helped develop features that realized planned methods for visualization of data, including dynamic filtering and export on selected cuts. For example, NBHC users can select multiple segments of data to compare data, resulting in more meaningful data for users. We also now advise on continued improvement and insights on how to deliver value to NBHC’s customers, provide site maintenance, and support for content and feature delivery in English and French.
The Results
ImageX successfully developed a user interface that enables NBHC to seamlessly interact with essential data, charts, and interfaces. This enhanced functionality has significantly reduced the workload on staff, saving the team considerable time. As a result, the client can now present their data in a more accessible and digestible format.
